Who we are
UKPHD Union is a new fast growing grass roots union dedicated to improving the working conditions of its members comprising of private hire drivers. Its core mission is to support drivers with the many day-to-day issues that they face.
We were initially a collective of private hire drives who felt we were being exploited and unfairly treated in daily working lives. We came up against employers that showed no real interest in its workforce as well as lots of regulations which offered us little protection. It’s from this that we strove to build a union that would best protect the interests and welfare of all its members.
We are now a registered trade union and continue to fight to secure better protection for our members in regards to pay, safety and dismissal.
What do we do
As well as striving to improve the working conditions of our members, UKPHD also provides support and advice over the phone, through our website and directly via casework on issues faced by private hire drivers such as:
– Unfair dismissal
– TFL investigation in regards to fitness to be licenced
– App Company investigation/suspension asking you to respond to feedback
– Delays with licence applications
– Safety related issue

Why join us?
Whilst we can help if you have a problem at work, if you join you will have a stronger voice and together we can make a real difference. For example, it can be very difficult for a single driver to speak to the App Companies about a workplace problems and then to resolve the difficulty by yourself.
However, if we speak as one and we act on your behalf we are all in a better position to get a better and deal and resolve the issues faced by drivers.

– You will benefit from our experience dealing with TFL to protect your licence particularly when undergoing a fitness to be licenced review
– You will receive advice on your rights as a driver and have access to legal advice when necessary
– You can be part of our wider community helping each other when members need assistance
– You can help contribute to our campaigns to get a better deal from the App companies
– Research shows that union members are general better off the non-unions members in terms of pay, working hours and other benefits such as more holiday and pensions.
– Workplaces are safer where there is a trade union
